The Calgary Stampeders pulled out a decisive 42 to 15 victory over the B.C. Lions in the Western Final at McMahon Stadium on Sunday and are now getting ready to head to Toronto for the 104th Grey Cup.

Bo Levi Mitchell seemed unfazed by an almost four week absence and the team responded in a big way despite back-to-back byes.

The Stampeders scored on the opening drive and were in front 32 to 0 by halftime.

Over 32,000 fans packed into McMahon Stadium and touchdowns from Lemar Durant, Marquay McDaniel and DaVaris Daniels contributed to the 42 to 15 final score.

The team will now head to Toronto for the Grey Cup next Sunday and will take on the Ottawa Redblacks who defeated Edmonton earlier in the day by a score of 35-23.

“We haven’t faced Ottawa in a long time, it’s been a while,” said Bo Levi Mitchell. “It’s not going to be easy, you know, they’re playing well behind Hank right now and honestly the entire team out there is, not many holes through that entire team.”

“The ultimate goal is to win the Grey Cup. I’m an old man, I don’t care about nothing else but a Grey Cup and I’ve been telling everybody all year, from the first week, don’t play with my Grey Cup,” said Joshua Bell.

For Dave Dickenson it will be his first trip to the finals as head coach and he says Sunday was a physical game but he hopes to have enough healthy players to get the job done.

“It was a well-played game on our half but we did have some guys that are certainly banged up and when I talked to them it was just a reminder of how tough this game is on bodies and how much our guys sacrifice,” he said. “I think we’ll be okay and we’ve got to make sure we can get through some practices and don’t lose anybody else and then hopefully have our best lineup on Sunday.”

Dickenson says Ottawa has a solid team and that the Stamps will have their hands full.

“I know that they’ll be hungry and, you know, our guys are focused and playing for a purpose as well so I think it will be a great matchup.”

He says the team will take part in some of the week’s festivities but the focus for players is on game day.

“Nothing about this game is normal and make sure you just understand that you gotta do your best, be selfish at times too and turn down some requests because you’ve got to get yourself right, get your body right,” he said. “I feel like this group has got the talent to win it and I think that certainly that’s our goal but it’s been a great season and I’m proud of our guys and I believe that they will give me their best, Grey Cup Sunday.”

“We’ve got a good team. We’ve got a really good team this year and I think that we’re very humble and focused and I like the feeling in our locker room right now,” said Rob Cote.

“I think it is deserved for everybody that’s playing so damn well but not going to mean anything if we don’t finish this off,” said Mitchell. “You have to cherish these moments and understand they don’t come around too often.”

The Stampeders last won the Grey Cup in 2014 and there are a number of players in the lineup who have been there before.

“I’ve got a lot of trust in our guys, I really do, I think we have good leadership. I know our guys are certainly here for the right reasons, so I’ve got a lot of trust, we’ll do the right things,” said Dickenson.

The 104th Grey Cup will be broadcast by TSN and gets underway at 6:00 p.m. EST.
