Emergency crews were called to the scene of a head-on crash on Highway 27 east of Olds that killed three people and sent four others to hospital.

The crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. Monday between an Acura and Ford Freestar mini-van.

Police say the female driver of the Acura was deceased at the scene.

There were six people in the Ford and RCMP say the driver and a rear passenger were also declared dead at the scene.

Calgary EMS says two people were taken to Foothills Hospital by STARS in critical condition and a third was taken by ground ambulance in potentially life threatening condition.

The fourth was taken by ambulance to hospital in Olds and is in serious but stable condition.

Police say weather and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash at this time however, road surface conditions may have been a factor.

A Collision Reconstructionist from Red Deer was brought in to assess the scene and police closed the highway for several hours to investigate.  We
