One lane in each direction has been opened, but city crews are still working on repairing a watermain break and sinkhole on 14 Street in northwest Calgary.

The city says crews have been able to pave a portion of 14 Street, accomodating for one lane in each direction to be opened.

14 Street between Northmount Drive and 24 Avenue N.W. was closed following a break that occurred late Wednesday night.

About 30 homes in the area don’t have any water, but temporary water supply has been brought in to supply the residents. The city says it will take a few days for the problem to be fixed.

“Right now, crews are getting down to the pipe, assessing the damage. As with all buried infrastructure, it’s difficult to tell what’s happened until you get on to that pipe,” says Scott Eagleson with the City of Calgary.

Eagleson adds that the repair could take a few days.
