Two men and a woman were transported to hospital after being struck by debris while working on the 27th storey of a downtown construction project.

Emergency crews responded to the construction site in the 700 block of 5 Street Southwest shortly after 1:00 p.m. following reports three workers had been injured after materials fell from a floor above.

“The patients were able to be brought down construction elevators to ground level to waiting ambulances where they were all taken to Foothills Hospital,” said Stuart Brideaux, EMS public education officer.

A male and a female patient, ages not confirmed, were transported to hospital in serious condition with non-life threatening injuries. The third worker was transported in stable condition with undisclosed injuries.

“We’ve had different accounts of what may have struck them,” said Brideaux. “Initial reports said they were bricks.”

Occupational Health and Safety will launch an investigation into the incident.
