The Calgary Airport Authority will now be starting work on the runway for the airport's tunnel project.
The city officially turned over the first piece of the airport tunnel to the Airport Authority last week.
Now, they will be able to begin construction on the long-awaited runway on top of the existing tunnel.
The 620m long tunnel accommodates six lanes of traffic with provision for a future transit way.
The tunnel extends Airport Trail from Barlow Trail to 36 St. N.E.
The runway must be completed by October so that taxiway construction can begin on schedule.
The project is expected to be finished by May 2014.
