Many residents of the Millrise condo complex are in a desperate search for their pets.

The good news is fire officials say all the pets have been accounted for and none have been found dead.

"The fire department has been absolutely amazing. We've been cross-referencing loss reports and guiding the firefighters to search places. We haven't had any fatalities at all which is absolutely amazing," says Glen Porter from Calgary Animal Services.

Kiesha Nixon had a sleepless night because her beloved dog Harley was missing.

Her husband spoke with fire crews on Friday morning and firefighters began a search for the dog.

"Within an hour, they called us and said they had Harley in his van so we're very happy," says Nixon.

Officials say at least 19 pets were found in the condo building after the fire. Firefighters have been double checking suites where they know pets lived.

Along with the rescue of cats, dogs, fish, and birds, firefighters have also rescued a hedgehog and a bearded dragon.

One cat was taken to a local vet clinic for treatment but should be reunited with its owner on Friday.

Calgary Animal Services is checking the licence of every animal pulled out of the building and putting in immediate calls to the owners.
