Calgary police are looking into reports about a door-to-door scam in the southeast neighbourhood of Acadia.

Investigators say they have received at least ten reports about a man who is going to homes in the area and asking for money.

They say that in many cases, the man says he is a neighbour and needs cash for a taxi because his wife is coming in from the airport.

He claims that his credit and debit cards are not working.

Police say that unsuspecting, generous Calgarians have given the man money and some have even driven to the ATM with him to get cash.

Police believe the same person may be responsible for several of these incidents.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Mid-30s
  • 185 cm or 6’1” tall
  • About 79 Kg or 175 lbs
  • Seen wearing a blue baseball cap with “DC” on the right side, a black leather jacket, grey hoodie, black gloves, jeans and black shoes

Calgary police are advising Calgarians that these are likely scams and are asking anyone who feels they may have been approached or targeted to call them at 403-266-1234.
