RCMP got more than they bargained for when they pulled a man over for suspected impaired driving and found over $250,000 worth of drugs in his vehicle.

On Saturday, September 10, RCMP was called to a complaint of a possible impaired driver at the Hostel Bear on Bow Valley Trail, in Canmore.

The suspect driver, Daniel Laird, was found inside the Hostel Bear and detained by police for an impaired driving investigation.

Police searched Laird, 27, before they placed him in a police vehicle and found an orange prescription bottle which contained suspected cocaine.

Laird was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and police further located Ketamine, Xanax and Valium on him.

Canmore RCMP escorted Laird back to the detachment and when they began the process of towing his vehicle, noted more illicit drugs.

The vehicle was seized and a search warrant executed.

The search warrant turned up more drugs with an estimated street value of $250,000.

Police seized; 508 grams Cocaine, 879 grams Ecstasy, 1338 grams of other drugs and pills and related drug paraphernalia.

Daniel Laird is charged with 13 counts under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Trafficking.

He is scheduled to appear in Canmore Provincial Court later this month.
