Austin Voros is known for his strong arm and his ability to connect at the plate.

Voros is an outfielder for the championship Okotoks Dawgs Baseball Club.

He calls Vancouver home, but Okotoks is the latest stop on his baseball journey.

“I started playing T-ball when I was a kid and then went up to little league. I have three older brothers so my oldest brother started playing and then we all followed,” said Voros.

The 22-year-old finished high school and then headed to El Paso Community College on a scholarship. “And then from there I went to Texas A & M International. It’s a divison two school in Laredo Texas and family has always been a great support to me and they’ve always helped me out whenever I need it and you know mothers, she was sad, she cried but she's always been there to support me and my brothers and my dad and they’ve done everything they can for me,” said Voros.

This is Voros’ third summer playing for the four-time WMBL champion Dawgs and he says he can't imagine playing anywhere else.

“These people are unreal here. They’re so supportive, They’re so good to us players. They let us into their homes, into their community and they just treat us with respect and the y treat us the best that we could ask for,” said Voros.

In 2011, Voros finished the summer with a .287 batting average with 16 runs, 4 homeruns and 13 RBIs.

Voros’ is considered one of the top 2012 college baseball prospects at Texas A & M International University and says baseball will always have a special place in his life.

“Love of the game. Just being out there everyday playing baseball, there’s nothing better. It’s like I’m a kid everyday,” said Voros.

For his power at the plate and positive approach on the field, Austin Voros is the CTV Calgary Athlete of the Week for Friday, August 3, 2012.
