The United Way is thanking the efforts of donors after they raised half a million dollars to be used to support vulnerable Calgarians in the aftermath of June’s flooding.
The organization says that now that the flooding has subsided and immediate needs have been met, they will now be focusing on the community needs in the disaster.
Online donors have donated more than $41,000 to the Emergency Community Support Fund and a number of oil companies contributing to the effort, bringing the total donation up to around $500,000.
Those donations, along with the $1M already in the fund, will go a long way to helping the United Way with their efforts.
Lucy Miller, president and CEO of The United Way, said on Wednesday morning that they will be working together with other charitable organizations in the city to coordinate activities in the city.
“By working together, we can maximize resources and avoid duplication – ensuring donor dollars have the greatest possible impact,” Miller said in a release.
They’ll also be working to determine all the damage inflicted to the many facilities that charities use for their work and work out a plan to get them repaired.
