The fire at a condo complex on Millrise Drive has forced the evacuation of residents and some area businesses.

Forty children from Inverleigh Child Care Centre were evacuated.

Kids at the daycare were relocated to Covenant Church at 50 Millrise Blvd. Children who attend after school care at the daycare were also taken to the church.

"We don't want them to panic, or our parents to panic, we want them to be in a nice warm place and luckily we have this church and they are part of our fire evacuation so we called them and they said come on over," says Sonya Perrault who operated the daycare.

The Calgary Catholic School Board said one of their schools in the area was impacted by the fire evacuation. School buses were unable to get into Our Lady of Peace Elementary Junior Catholic School, so the board asked parents to pick up their children.

A local vet clinic was also evacuated. The owner of the Fish Creek 24hr Pet Hospital says anyone who had pets at the clinic can contact Southpointe Pet Hospital at 403-532-0085 because that's where the animals were transported.

Red Cross is on scene. They are prepared to help any displaced residents who need assistance finding accommodation.

An evacuation centre has now been set up at Southview Alliance Church at 1436 James McKevitt Road, S.W.
