The debate over who the Calgary Flames should select with the 15th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft came to an abrupt halt Friday afternoon, as the team traded the pick, as well as two second round picks, to the Boston Bruins for a promising young defenseman.

Dougie Hamilton is the newest member of the Calgary Flames following a 42 point, 72 game, 2014-2015 season with the Bruins in which he led the team’s defensemen in goals and points.

In return, Boston receives Calgary’s 15th, 45th and 52nd picks in the 2015 draft.

The 196 cm (6’5”), 96 kg (212 lbs), 22-year-old defenseman, selected ninth overall by Boston in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, is a restricted free agent. In his first three NHL seasons, Hamilton recorded 22 goals and 61 assists in 178 regular season games.

In 2014-2015, Hamilton finished a -3 and registered 41 penalty minutes for the Bruins who finished outside of playoff contention.
