A Saturday morning house fire in the southeast community of Douglas Glen has reduced one family’s home to ash.

Fire crews responded to a home in the 500 block of Douglas Glen Pt. S.E. at approximately 5:00 a.m. Firefighters encountered flames and massive plumes of smoke pouring from the two story structure, encroaching neighbouring houses. Additional CFD resources were deployed to the scene.

Once all residents of the home were accounted for, crews launched an aggressive attack on the blaze. Firefighters focus their efforts on protecting the adjacent houses as officials determined the original home had suffered extensive damage and could not be salvaged.

Police assisted firefighters in evacuating homes downwind from the fire as a precautionary measure.

Crews successfully extinguished the blaze and remained at the scene to ensure hotspots did not reignite.

No injuries have been reported.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin once the area has been deemed safe.
