The Calgary Police Service is warning Calgarians following the release of a man with a history of sexual offences including an attack against a child.

James Alexander Parent has been released from the Bowden Institution following the completion of his six year sentence in connection with:

  • Sexual assault with a weapon
  • Sexual assault causing bodily harm
  • Disguise with intent
  • Unlawful confinement
  • Break and enter
  • Uttering threats
  • Mischief

Parent, now 58 years old, was convicted in 2011 in relation to a violent sexual attack on a Calgary woman in 1987. The victim was attacked in her home after answering the doorbell.

Parent’s prior convictions included sexual offences against a child.

Correctional Services Canada will continue to monitor Parent's activities.

Parent is described as:

  • A Caucasian male
  • 191 cm (6’3”) tall
  • Weighing 91 kgs (200 lbs)
  • Having grey and black hair
  • Having hazel eyes

The Calgary Police Service is informing the public of Parent’s release to allow Calgarians an opportunity to take precautionary measures to avoid an encounter with the offender.

Police do not condone vigilante action.
