The Calgary Police Service confirms James Alexander Parent has been arrested following the issuing of a Canada-wide warrant to suspend Parent's release.

Parent was arrested on Thursday at a location in downtown Calgary after Correctional Services Canada rescinded Parent's statutory relase.

On August 5, police issued a warning to Calgarians following the 58-year-old’s release from the Bowden Institution. Parent had been serving a six year sentence in connection with a violent sexual attack on a Calgary woman in her home in 1987.

Parent had been convicted of the attack in 2011 and his prior convictions included sexual offences against a minor.
