Nearly three months after the flooding of the Highwood River devastated the town of High River, the town’s museum is preparing to reopen its doors.
The Museum of the Highwood lost nearly 80 per cent of its collection when river water entered its storage facility. Museum officials believe all items of historical value were salvaged and the main floor of the building suffered minimal water damage.
Following a massive clean-up effort, visitors are invited to return to this museum beginning on Saturday to explore a new exhibit. ‘The Missus: Where History becomes Her Story’ examines the contributions of remarkable women in the Highwood region.
Officials hope the museum can offer High River residents a temporary escape from flood related concerns.
“We want people to come in and have some sort of a normal visit,” explains Pat Markley, program coordinator of the Museum of the Highwood. “To have a nice break from all the stress and turmoil of the past few months.”
The museum reopens Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and will resume it's regularly scheduled hours of operation. For more information, visit Museum of the Highwood.
