Canadian peacekeepers were honoured in special ceremonies across the country Sunday.
August 9 is National Peacekeepers' Day.
It was on this day in 1974 that the greatest single loss of Canadian lives on a peacekeeping mission occurred. Nine Canadians were killed serving with the United Nations Emergency Force in Egypt and Israel.
In Calgary, a ceremony honouring Canadian peacekeepers took place at Peacekeeper Park in Garrison Green in southwest Calgary.
All 268 names of the fallen were read aloud from the Wall of Honour.
26 names were added to the wall this year alone.
