Calgary police are continuing their investigation into the death of Meika Dawn Jordan after new medical evidence surfaced.
During the evening of November 13, 2011, officers responded to a medical call at a home in the 6700 block of Temple Drive N.E.
Family members in the home told police that 6-year-old Meika had fallen down a flight of stairs, suffering severe injuries to her head and abdomen.
Meika was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries the following day.
An autopsy conducted in the days following Meika’s death determined her injuries were not consistent with the fall. The autopsy results indicated the six-year-old had suffered multiple blunt force trauma and her death was deemed a homicide.
New medical evidence indicates the child had also suffered a third degree burn to her hand prior to her death.
According to police, Meika was in the care of her biological father and her stepmother when she was burned and when she suffered the head trauma.
Police continue to investigate Meika’s death. The father and stepmother are not cooperating with police.
