Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in the northeast on Thursday morning and are looking for two suspects and a vehicle that may have been involved.
A District 5 officer was dispatched to a disturbance call in the 0-100 block of Castleridge Crescent NE at about 5:45 a.m. and police say the call came from someone inside the home who claimed two men were inside threatening to shoot one of the residents.
The offenders left the home before police arrived and officers were told to be on the lookout for a red Pontiac that fled the scene.
An officer located the vehicle with two people in it about 15 minutes later and started to follow it while waiting for backup to conduct a traffic stop.
Police say the driver of the Pontiac slammed on the breaks, pulled part way into a driveway along Fallingworth Court N.E., and then two people jumped out of the vehicle.
The officer thought one of the occupants was holding a handgun so he drew his weapon and fired at the suspect.
Both suspects fled the scene and police are still looking for them.
It is not clear if either of the suspects was hit by gunfire and police are asking the public to let them know if they come across any evidence that indicates an injury occurred.
About 30 minutes after the shooting, police were called to a home in the 100 block of Falchurch Crescent by a resident who reported that their white Ford Escape, with Alberta plate BNH9728 and Johnson Controls on the side, was stolen.
Police say it’s possible the same two suspects are responsible for the theft of the SUV and they are now looking for the vehicle.
The first suspect is described as:
- South Asian male
- Late 20s
- 173 cm or 5' 8" tall
- Wearing baggy jeans and a blue and brown jacket
The second suspect is described as:
- South Asian male
- Early 30s
- 173 cm or 5' 8" tall
- Slim build
- Possibly wearing all black clothing
Police say they don't believe the incident is connected to the ongoing gun violence in the area over the past few months.
The officer who fired the shots has been with the force for five years. ASIRT has been advised of the incident and the Homicide Unit and Professional Standards Section are investigating.
