Residents of a Millrise condo which burned on Thursday are being allowed back in to salvage what they can.

Hundreds of residents are being given boxes so they can pack up a few items.

For many, who watched the fire engulf their homes, this will be their first chance to see the damage up close.

Lindsey Holoyuk didn't have insurance and the single mother doesn't know if she can salvage anything from her condo.

"I don't have any money. I don't have a job. And that was basically everything I had so I don't know what I am going to do," says Holoyuk.

Geordie Harrison's daughter is supposed to get married this weekend but those plans could be on hold as she tried to find a new home.

"Their rings are in there, their gifts, all of their decorations, and their condo unit was on the bottom floor so it wasn't destroyed in the fire but they've been told they won't be able to move in there," says Harrison.

The city is working on permanent accommodations for those who didn't' have any insurance.

Others are being asked to talk to their insurance providers for help.

The city says it has everything it needs for immediate assistance such as clothing and food.

Medican, the developers of the condo, has been working with the Southview Alliance Church to set up a donation system.

Cash donations can now be dropped off at the church office at 1436 James McKevitt Road, S.W.

Cheques can be made out to Canvas at Millrise Relief Fund. Charitable receipts are available. Unfortunately, Southview Alliance is not able to receive donations other than cash.

The City is currently assessing the immediate needs of evacuated residents and will provide details on a donation plan as soon as it becomes available.  For more information, check the city's website or call 311.
