Calgary shooting victim suffers serious injuries, 2 others hurt in crash
Calgary police are investigating a shooting and subsequent car crash in the northeast on Thursday that sent several people to hospital.
Police were called to the 900 block of Marcombe Crescent N.E. just before midnight.
A home surveillance video provided to CTV News shows two people approaching a vehicle stopped in an alleyway.
Two shots were fired into the car before the driver pulled away. Then one more shot is fired, which can be clearly seen and heard on the video.
Moments later, another video shows a car crashing into trees outside of Bob Edwards School. According to a witness, three people were seen running from the crash.
A bystander called police. When they arrived, officers found several people had been injured.
“They are known to police,” said Calgary Police Service Duty Inspector Gerry Murtagh.
”At this point, I believe that it was targeted.”
EMS told CTV News three people were taken to hospital.
Officials said one victim was in serious but stable condition after being shot, one was in serious condition with injuries sustained in a crash and one was in stable condition with injuries from the same crash.
The crash knocked power out of 43 homes, with the whole ordeal drawing concern for the community.
“It’s scary, that is really scary,” said area resident Mary Grace Dizon. “I’m planning to go or at least move I think. I’m talking to my husband now also to find someplace that we feel safe.”
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Calgary police or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
