Fans of scaly and slithery reptiles, and amphibians, and those looking to face their fears of reptiles, are set to gather in Midnapore this weekend for the annual Calgary Reptile Expo.
More than 1,000 animals will be on display at the Midsun Communty Centre (50 Midpark Rise S.E.) during the two day event presented by the Alberta Reptile and Amphibian Society. The expo will include 40 vendors from across Canada selling reptile enclosures, supplies and animals.
“We have a kid’s corner where people can come and be hands-on with these animals and experience what it’s like to hold them and interact with them,” said Glyn Hersom, Alberta Reptile and Amphibian Society vice president. “It’s primarily for education and to help conservation in Alberta.”
The Expo will allow prospective pet owners the opportunity to ask questions and discuss reptiles with breeders and hobbyists to ensure they choose the right animal for their home. Organizers encourage people with a fear of snakes, lizards or other reptiles to attend the show. Seeing the animals up close and asking questions to dispel myths may be the first steps in helping people overcome their fears.
The Calgary Reptile Expo runs:
- Saturday May 3: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday May 4: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
