An extremely rare celestial display dazzled overnight in southern Alberta.

Photographers in the Calgary area, including Matt Melnyk, captured the colourful corona aurora late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

A corona aurora is a rare perspective of the northern lights where the stream of charged particles travels in a path toward the viewer.
