The town of Vulcan will lose its Star Trek-themed museum after the business announced it is moving to Drumheller.
The Trekcetera museum is privately owned and opened in Vulcan three years ago.
But co-owners Devan Daniels and Michael Mangold say they don’t see enough year-round tourism to live long and prosper in the community. They are hoping that by moving to Drumheller, they can draw on tourist traffic from the Royal Tyrell Museum.
“It’s very disappointing to see, they offered a great service and did a great job,” said Tom Grant, Vulcan’s mayor. Grant says the museum’s move doesn’t impact the popular Starship Enterprise replica or the Star Trek themed tourist station.
The town began their Star Trek marketing 25 years ago, as Vulcan is the name of the home planet of Mr. Spock on the sci-fi series.
Trekcetera closes its doors on the 50th anniversary of the premier of the original Star Trek TV series.
