A 28-year-old man is dead following an altercation on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation during a Wednesday evening celebration.

According to Cochrane RCMP, two Nation residents, attending an undisclosed event, had a disagreement that escalated into a fight. One of the men suffered critical injuries and was transported to a Calgary area hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.

The injured man succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

RCMP have arrested 23-year-old Jay Rollinmud in connection with the death. Rollinmud has been charged with one count of manslaughter and will remain in police custody until his next court appearance which is scheduled for Tuesday.
