The quick actions of a driver after noticing smoke emanating from his vehicle likely saved him from harm.

According to police, the driver of a Land Rover Discovery was travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail late Saturday afternoon when he noticed smoke. The driver exited the highway at Heritage Meadows Road Southeast. The driver stopped the vehicle at a spot along Heritage Drive, near the Glenmore Trail overpass and the Bow River, where the SUV erupted in flames.

The Calgary Fire Department responded to the area and extinguished the fire.

No injuries have been reported. The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
