A 51-year-old man from High River was airlifted to the Foothills Medical Centre and his two passengers were transported to hospital by ground ambulance following an afternoon crash on northbound Highway 2 just south of Calgary city limits.

According to EMS officials, emergency crews were called to the northbound lanes of the highway, near the division of Macleod Trail and Deerfoot Trail, at approximately 4:30 p.m. following reports of a rollover.

A STARS Air Ambulance crew airlifted one patient, a 51-year-old man who was the driver of the car, from the scene in critical, life threatening condition. EMS crews transported a 62-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man to hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition. All three occupants of the car are from High River.

A preliminary RCMP investigation into the rollover suggests another vehicle had swerved in front of the car causing the driver of the car to lose control of his vehicle and enter the ditch, The offending vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Police do not believe road conditions or alcohol contributed to the crash.

Traffic in the area was rerouted to Highway 2A for several hours.
