AIRDRIE

Airdrie mayor Peter Brown was acclaimed. Kelly Hegg, Fred Burley, Ron Chapman, Allan Hunter, Candice Kolson and Darrel Belyk were elected to council. 18 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in the election.

 

BANFF

Karen Sorensen was re-elected mayor. The eight councillors are Grant Canning, Ted Christensen, Corrie DiManno, Stavros Karlos, Chip (Cheryl) Olver and Brian Standish.

 

BROOKS

Martin Shields was re-elected mayor. The councillors-elect are Barry Morishita, Bill Prentice, Norman Gerestein, Dan Klein, Cathy Corbett-Schock and Fred Rattai.

 

CANMORE

It was a landslide victory for Mayor John Borrowman. Esmé Comfort, Joanna McCallum, Vi Sandford, Sean Krausert. Rob Seeley and Ed Russell will sit as councillors.

 

CARSTAIRS

Carstairs mayor Lance Colby was acclaimed. Nine candidates ran for six councillor spots. Dean Allan, Rick Blair, Nathan Cooper, Alexander Gil, Robert Green and Sandi Roberts got the positions.

 

CHESTERMERE

Patricia Matthews became mayor by acclamation. Town council will be made up by Heather Davies, Stu Hutchison, Jennifer Massig, Gail Smith, Christopher Steeves and Patrick Watson.

 

CLARESHOLM

It was a tight race for mayor in Claresholm where Rob Steel narrowly beat out incumbent David Moore. Incumbent Betty Fieguth is joined by Jamie Cutler, Chris Dixon, Shelley Ford, Mike McAlonan and Lyal O’Neill on council.

 

COALDALE

Kim Craig was elected mayor. The councillors elect are Jack Van Run, Jacen Abrey, Bill Chapman, Bill Martens, Roger Allen Hohm and Sherrie Duda.

 

COCHRANE

Cochrane has elected Ivan Brooker as its mayor. The six councillors are Jeff Toews, Tara McFadden, Mary Lou Davis, Ross Watson, Morgan Nagel and Gaynor Levisky.

Just 33 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots.

 

CROWSNEST PASS

There was a big shakeup in Crowsnest Pass. Incumbent Bruce Decoux was defeated by Blair Painter. Voters also chose an entirely new council. None of the incumbent councilors running for office were elected. The new councilors are William Kovach, Shar Lazzarotto, Marlene Anctil, Dave Filipuzzi, Dean Ward and Doreen Glavin.

 

HIGH RIVER

Craig Snodgrass was elected mayor of High River after a record number voter turnout. More than 3,000 people stood in long lines on Monday to cast their ballots.

Former mayor Emile Blokland ran for town council. He was elected. Dragan Brankovich, Cathy Couey, Peter Loran, Bruce Masterman and Don Moore were also elected to council.

 

INNISFAIL

Brian Spiller became mayor by acclamation. Council incumbents Mark Kemball and Heather Taylor are joined by Gavin Bates, Doug Bos, Patt Churchill and Danny Rieberger.

 

LETHBRIDGE

A man who has never sat on city council will take the mayor’s chair. Chris Spearman is a business manager and former chair of the separate school board. He beat out two city councillors for the job. He will be working with councillors Joe Mauro, Ryan Parker, Jeffrey Coffman, Jeff Carlson, Rob Miyashiro, Wade Galloway, Blaine Hyggen and Liz Iwaskiw. Voter turnout was 28 per cent.

 

MEDICINE HAT

One of the biggest upsets in Southern Alberta was in Medicine Hat. Two time mayor Norm Boucher came in dead last. Councillor Ted Clugston will be the city’s next mayor. The eight council seats will be filled by Robert Dumanowski, Julie Christine Friesen, Jamie McIntosh, Brian Varga, Jim Turner, Celina Symmonds, Les Pearson and Bill Cocks.

 

OKOTOKS

Bill Robertson was re-elected as mayor. Thirteen candidates ran for council. Matt Rockley, Edward Sands, Tanya Thorn, Carrie Fischer, Ray Watrin and Ken Heemeryck will fill the town’s six seats.

 

OLDS

Incumbent Judy Dahl took the mayor’s seat in Olds. All six councillors were acclaimed. They are Mary Jane Harper, Harvey Walsh, Mary Anne Overwater, Debra Bennett, Wade Bearchell and Rudy Durieux.

 

RED DEER

Long time councillor Tara Veer was elected mayor. Dianne Wyntjes, Buck Buchanan, Lawrence Lee, Lynne Mulder, Frank Wong, Ken Johnston, Paul Harris and Tanya Handley will sit on city council.

 

SUNDRE

Terry Leslie beat out incumbent mayor Annette Clews for the town’s top spot. The councillors-elect are Paul Isaac, Tony Jordan, Verna McFadden, Jodi Orr, Myron Thompson and Chris Vardas.
