A Calgary court has reached a decision in the case of a Sundre woman accused of shooting her husband at the couple’s home three years ago.

Heather Wilson-Duncan, 63, was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of 68-year-old Barry Duncan on December 10, 2010.

Wilson-Duncan took the stand earlier in the trial and told the court that they had been fighting that night.

She said that she didn’t know the gun was loaded when her husband handed it to her and told her to shoot him.

She said the next thing she knew, Barry was on the ground and when she went to pull him up, she realized there was something wrong.

She called 911 and told the jury that she hardly remembers making the call.

Wilson-Duncan and her lawyer maintained that the whole thing was a tragic accident.

A jury found her guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter on Tuesday afternoon.

The Crown says it will not seek more than the mandatory four year minimum sentence.
