Police continue to investigate the homicide of a 69-year-old Coleman woman who was found dead in her home last week.

The body of Hannah Meketech was found in her home at 1421 81 Street on Wednesday, September 9 after a concerned neighbour called police.

RCMP confirmed Maketech’s death was a homicide but the cause of death has not been released due to investigative reasons.

Terry Megli lives next door and says Meketech was one of the first people he met when he moved to southern Alberta.

“She was just a sweet lady, she was childish, in a way,” said Megli. “We talked to her just a few days, we were out in my back yard and heard her talking, I looked over the fence and she's up the alley, feeding a deer. But she was like that, she fed skunks, because she was afraid they'd starve to death.

The murder has local residents on edge.

“It was quite shocking. Something like that is not usual for this area,” said resident Karey Watanabe.

"We haven't had one in eight to ten years and the last one we had was drug related. It was a younger fellow so you know that can go on anywhere but to have two murders in the past week just doesn’t happen here,” said Doreen Polzer,  Blairmore Resident.

So far police have not made any arrests in Meketech's death.
