Parks Canada and RCMP have recovered the body of a hiker from Parker Ridge in Banff National Park.

The 54-year-old Massachusetts man was found near Parker Ridge which is in the Columbia Icefield area.

Police say the man and his partner were heading towards the summit of Parker Ridge in the northern part of Banff National Park on Sunday.

The hiking partner became tired and turned around and the victim continued his climb towards the summit.

The hiking partner called for help at about 4:50 p.m. when the victim did not return to their vehicle.

Parks Canada dispatched ground, canine and helicopter crews immediately and initiated a search.

They were unable to locate the man by nightfall and continued the search on Monday.

The man’s body was found just after 10:00 a.m.

Police and the medical examiner's office are investigating the cause of death and say foul play has been ruled out.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified.
