Charges have been laid against a 38-year-old Calgary woman who was involved in a crash that killed a little girl in the city's northwest in May.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of 79 Street and 47 Avenue N.W. at about 8:00 p.m. on May 6, 2016 for reports of a collision.
A four-year-old girl was walking south on 79 Street with her family at the same time as a Ford F150 truck was travelling west on 47 Avenue.
Witnesses reported that the truck stopped at the intersection and then proceeded slowly through and that’s when a child ran into the path of the vehicle.
The little girl, named Avi, was hit by the truck and sustained serious head injuries.
Paramedics treated the girl but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash
Tanis Lambert, 38, has now been charged with careless driving and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
CTV News reached out to the family of the little girl following the arrest and was told that they did not want to talk about the case.
Lambert is expected to appear in court on the charges on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.
