Calgary Police are now trying to determine who leaked information to the media which was related to Thomas Lukaszuk’s massive cell phone bill.
The former Deputy Premier racked up at $20,000 cell phone bill, mainly in roaming charges.
In 2012, he was overseas on holiday and says he had to deal with a frantic call from a cabinet minister who had received a threat.
The next day, Lukaszuk said he contacted the premier’s office. That contact racked up roaming charges.
Documents were transmitted and a video conference was held, before it was determined the whole incident was a personal matter involving the minister’s sibling, and was not related to provincial government business.
Now Lukaszuk is questioning the source of the leak. He says he spoke to a Calgary resident whose name was attached to the leak, but that person was out of the country when the document was couriered to a news outlet.
That’s why Calgary police are now involved.
Investigators say if someone leaked the cell phone bill using another person’s name that could be identity theft.
