The Calgary Police Service is warning Calgarians following the release of a convicted sex offender for the second time this month.

On Monday morning, police confirmed 58-year-old James Alexander Parent has been re-released from custody and his activities will be monitored by Correctional Services Canada.

Parent had been previously released from the Bowden Institution on Thursday, August 5 on a statutory release in connection with his sentence for a violent sexual attack on a Calgary woman in 1987. The statutory release was rescinded by Correctional Services Canada and Parent was arrested in downtown Calgary.

The CPS does not condone vigilante actions and is notifying the public of Parent’s release to allow Calgarians an opportunity to avoid encounters with Parent.

Parent is described as:

  • A Caucasian male
  • 191 cm (6’3”) tall
  • Weighing 91 kg (200 lb)
  • Having grey and black hair
  • Having hazel eyes

Parent’s previous convictions include sexual offences against a child.
