RCMP seized a significant amount of drugs from four traffic stops on provincial roadways over the past three days.

“Our officers are vigilant, professional and dedicated to making sure Alberta’s highways and roads are safe.” says Superintendent Howard Eaton, Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Services. “When these stops also lead to large seizures of drugs, they’re also reducing illegal drug supply and helping make Alberta’s communities safer.”

The busts have resulted in several charges against five people as follows:

  • April 7 - A traffic stop for a traffic violation led to a seizure of 500 grams of cocaine. Jade Lebrock, 23, of Calgary, has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He is scheduled to appear at Canmore Provincial Court on June 5, 2013.
  • April 9 - A traffic stop for a traffic violation resulted in a search that revealed 165 cloned cannabis plants. The driver Billy Scott, 26, of Calgary, and his passenger Lam Chau, 43, of Claresholm have been charged with Production of a Substance. They are scheduled to appear at Canmore Provincial Court on June 5, 2013.
  • April 10 – During a traffic stop for a traffic violation, 84 lbs. of marijuana was discovered.  Charges are pending against a 63-year-old male from Duncan, BC.
  • April 10 – While conducting a traffic stop for a traffic violation, three ounces of heroin were seized. Hassan Irshad, 22, of Calgary has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He is scheduled to appear at Canmore Provincial Court on June 5, 2013.

Police say seizures of this size are putting a dent in the illicit drug supply.

They estimate that the latest seizures will prevent the distribution of over 150,000 marijuana cigarettes, 840 doses of heroin, and about 500 doses of cocaine from reaching the streets.
