A 16-year-old boy has died in a Calgary hospital from injuries he sustained in a dirt biking crash on the weekend.

Police were called to an area east of Diamond City at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday and found an unconscious male at the scene when they arrived.

RCMP say the boy was riding with a group of three other riders and crashed while trying to negotiate steep terrain.

He was taken to hospital in Lethbridge and then airlifted by STARS to hospital in Calgary where he died from his injuries on Wednesday.

Police in Picture Butte say the incident is not suspicious in nature and the name of the boy is not being released.
