A man who claimed he was beaten by RCMP during an arrest at a home on the Sikisika Nation last week has been released on bail.
The family of Christian Duckchief alleges that Gleichen RCMP used excessive force during a false arrest at their home on April 1.
The Duckchief’s say police entered the family’s home unannounced and burst into the bedroom. They say Christian thought it was a robbery and bit one of the officer’s fingers and that’s when things got rough.
According the family, Christian Duckchief suffered fractures to his nose, head and cheek and surgery was required to repair a broken eye socket.
Duckchief was charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and breaching his bail conditions.
His lawyer believes the breach of conditions is a mistake and the 23-year-old was released on bail following a hearing on Wednesday
In a Facebook post, the Duckchief family says their lawyer is filing an official complaint against the RCMP.
The RCMP has not commented on the allegations.
