The Calgary Zoo’s Queen of the Jungle, Kita, died at the age of 19 on Tuesday.

Kita has shown her age over the last few years and was suffering from arthritis. The Zoo says the median age for Amur tigers is 14 years

Kita came to the Calgary Zoo from Toronto in 1999 as a three-year-old and had six cubs while at the facility. Her offspring have also had several cubs that reside in other facilities across North America and Europe.

There are only about 350 Amur tigers left in the wild and about 500 in captivity.
