Lawyers are presenting their final arguments in the Paxton trial and the judge in the case will put aside a final decision on a stay application from the defence until Friday.
Paxton's defence called for a stay of proceedings, saying they have video evidence that police coached witnesses who were called to the stand to testify against Dustin Paxton.
Paxton's lawyers are also calling for another judge to rule in the stay proceedings.
If the stay is granted, then a mistrial could be called.
On Wednesday, closing arguments began with the Crown recapping witness testimony, which said that the victim was wounded, maimed, and disfigured by the Paxton's assaults.
During the testimony a number of witnesses were in the courtroom, but were ushered out of the room.
That's because if a mistrial is called later this week, the judge does not want the witnesses to hear the closing arguments from both sides.
CTV spoke with the witnesses who were escorted out of the trial and they said they were there because they are furious that a mistrial could be called and they would have to take the stand again or, if a stay is granted, Paxton could walk free.
Dustin Paxton is charged with the unlawful confinement and torture of his former roommate and coworker who was dumped near death at a hospital in Regina.
