Calgary firefighters have had a busy week, attending their fourth house fire since Sunday morning.
Crews were called to the scene of a fire in Whitehorn at around 4 a.m. where two homes are reported to be on fire.
Flames were knocked down quickly, and six to eight people got out safely.
"The original crews ran large volume hoses into the exposures and started to knock the fire down upon arrival," said Battalion Chief Al Magwood.
Officials say it's unclear if the homes can be saved, but there is no word on the amount of damage.
Magwood said that the large amount of smoke and flames caused the fire to spread from the source home to the one next to it.
He says insurance companies will have to make the final decision on if the homes can be salvageable.
Residents in the affected area say they were woken up early in the morning by police banging on their door. "Police were knocking, banging on the door and told us to get out. I didn't know anything was going on until they were banging on the door," one man said.
Investigators have been speaking with the occupants of the homes and they have made accomodation arrangements.
This is the fourth fire involving homes in the City of Calgary this week, with the first occurring early Sunday morning in Castleridge.
That fire destroyed two homes on Castlebrook Road N.E. and three people managed to escape safely. A cat was also rescued from the blaze.
Early Monday morning, a fire also tore through two homes in the northwest community of Kincora.
All of the affected residents got out safely, but one person did re-enter one of the burning homes. They needed to be sent to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The third fire took place on Tuesday afternoon in New Brighton. That fire claimed three homes on Brightoncrest Heights.
A fundraiser is being held to help the affected families from that most recent house fire.
Financial donations are being accepted at an A&W location in the community starting at 6 p.m.
Goodlife Fitness on 130 Avenue is also taking gift cards and cash donations for the family of three whose home was completely destroyed.
Excavators have already dug through the charred remains of the home and knocked down the remainder of the ruined home.
A contractor tells CTV News the other two homes in that fire can be saved.
