Country singer Jason Hastie and his wife have chosen a family to take away their Killarney home and make it their own after receiving hundreds of responses to their online ad for a free house.
Jason and Gina Hastie are building a new home on their lot in the southwest community and didn’t want a perfectly good house to go to waste. So instead of tearing it down, they decided to put an ad on kijiji offering the home for free to a family affected by the floods last June.
The couple’s ad received over 300,000 views and they have finally chosen one family to gift the home to from the 2,000 inquires.
"We were incredibly moved to hear so many stories of people in need. The family we chose are wonderful people who have faced great tragedy over the past few years,” say Jason and Gina. “We truly believe that their lives will be changed by having a place they can call 'home' again. Our hope is that this inspires others to do the same."
The three-bedroom house was built in the 50s and was recently renovated.
The new homeowners will have to provide the land but the Hasties are kicking in $1000 to help pay the costs of moving the house.
The Hasties will announce the name of the family and officially give the home away on Wednesday February 26.
