Police confirm that an innocent victim is among the three people killed in a gang hit at a southeast restaurant.

In a news conference Monday afternoon, police said 43-year-old Keni Su'a was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Su'a is being described as a religious man who came to Calgary from Samoa as part of a missionary group 15 years ago.

Talking to CTV News, his ex-wife says he was a caring, loving, man who would do anything for his friends and family.

Su'a fled the Bolsa restaurant New Year's Day when the shooting broke out. He was gunned down outside the building.

Two men who died inside the Bolsa restaurant have been identified.

Sanjeev Mann, 22, is being identified by police as a known gang member and 21-year-old Aaron Bendle is being identified as a gang associate.

Meantime, a family member told CTV News Monday night that Aaron Bendle did not have any gang ties and that the family had never heard of Sanjeev Mann.

The family member who did not want to be identified, said Bendle's parents are devastated with the loss of their son and that the young man didn't have a criminal record.

Aaron Bendle is being described as a "character and jokester" who was very loved.

Investigators say the choice of the restaurant was random and it is not a known gang hangout.

At the time of the shooting, police say Mann, Bendle, and another woman were sitting at the same table inside the restaurant when two men opened fire.

It's believed that Su'a was gunned down outside the restaurant by a third suspect.
