A 32-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to the death of his girlfriend at a Pineridge area residence back in March.
Police were called to a home in the 200 block of Pinetree Bay NE on March 28th at about 6:30 a.m. for reports of a deceased female.
The woman’s boyfriend told police that he found her after what appeared to be a suicide.
Police considered the woman’s death suspicious at the time but additional testing by the medical examiner and new developments in the case determined that the woman was murdered.
The victim has been identified as Sheri Michelle Carpen, 31, of Calgary, and police are not releasing the cause of death as the investigation is ongoing.
Luke Anthony MacLeod, 32, is charged with second-degree murder and was arrested in Coaldale on Wednesday.
Police say MacLeod and Carpen were in a relationship at the time of her death but that there was no reported domestic violence between them.
MacLeod has been transferred back to Calgary and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Friday.
