Calgary police are investigating after a vehicle struck a traffic light pole in the northeast early Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the single-vehicle crash, at the intersection of 68 Street and 16 Avenue N.E. at 3:30 a.m.

Officials say a man had to be extricated from the wreckage of his vehicle. He was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The cause is under investigation, but police say they are not ruling out a medical issue.
