A 37-year-old Calgary man has now been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Jonathan Joe Schmeikal on a Forest Lawn street at the end of September.

Police were called to the 2600 block of 43 Street SE at about 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30 for a check on welfare and found Schmeikal dead in the street when they arrived.

An autopsy conducted by the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office determined that he died as a result of a shooting.

Police believe Schmeikal was being driven around in a stolen vehicle by more than one person before his death and say the shooting may have been drug related.

Investigators recovered the vehicle and several weapons and believe that Schmeikal was shot near where he was found and then removed from the vehicle and left on the street.

Jerry Cody Goodeagle, 25, of Gleichen was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death in early October.

On Friday, a second man, Dyson White, 37, of Calgary, was also charged with second-degree murder in the case.

White will next appear in court on Tuesday, January 5, 2015.
