Officials with the City of Calgary are keeping close attention on the flow in the two major rivers in the city, and say they are starting to come down.
The flow on the Elbow and Bow Rivers are still relatively high, but the flow is improving on the Elbow south of the Glenmore Dam
Officials say the flow is under control.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says Transalta was able to reduce the flow on the Bow River as well.
“They were able to decrease the flow from the 720 cubic metres/sec to 680 cubic metres/sec at 5 p.m. They’re confident they’ll be able to go to 600 by the middle of the day tomorrow,” Nenshi said during a briefing on Monday evening.
In terms of drinking water, the city says that the quality remains good and it is safe to drink.
Residents should be aware that flooding and spring runoff has caused slit and organic material to enter the supply and has changed the taste and colour of the water.
There is, however, no need to boil your water before using it.
Treatment plants are still fully operational, but Calgarians are still asked to conserve water usage.
