Two men are facing charges in connection to the death of Harsimran Singh Birdi, who was found lying in a northeast alley in 2016.

Police were called to an alleyway in the 9700 block of Harvest Hills Link N.E. at about 8:30 a.m. on April 7, 2016 after a member of the community found Birdi’s body.

Police believe he was targeted and his death was ruled a homicide.

In November, police released CCTV images of two men who were believed to have been with the victim in the hours before his death.

On Monday, two people were taken into custody in connection to Birdi’s death and charges have now been laid.

Abdullah Mela, 21, is charged with second-degree murder and Nadar Abdulbaki, 21, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Both men are from Calgary and are scheduled to appear in court later this week.
