One person is dead and four others have been transported to hospital following an afternoon crash in the southwest that prompted a police investigation into suspected impaired driving.
According to EMS officials, the three vehicle crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Glenmore Trail, west of the Crowchild Trail overpass.
One man, believed to be in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"On arrival, EMS determined there were at least six patients between three vehicles involved," said EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux. "EMS has taken two people to the Rocky View Hospital, a man and a woman each in their 40s, in stable and non-life threatening condition."
Brideaux says two other patients, a man in his 20s and a woman believed to be in her 60s, were taken to the Foothills Hospital in serious condition.
An unidentified man was transported from the crash scene in police custody. Police confirm the adult male, believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles, underwent a breathalyzer test at the CPS District 2 office.
Following the crash, Glenmore Trail was closed in both directions between 37 Street Southwest and Crowchild Trail. Police believe the section of Glenmore Trail will likely remain closed to traffic throughout the night.
