A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a truck at gunpoint and leading police on a dangerous chase on Deerfoot Trail.
Strathmore RCMP were called to Wrangler Park, in Rocky View County, at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday for reports of a man with a gun stealing a truck.
The stolen truck was then spotted driving west towards Calgary and then again at the Mountain View Cemetery on 100 Street S.E.
CPS was notified about the incident, but the driver fled the scene before officers could move in.
The stolen truck was located on Deerfoot Trail, driving in a dangerous manner, by the HAWCS helicopter a short time later.
Once the truck left city limits, police observed it getting stuck in a field southwest of Balzac.
Cole Matthew Peoples, 32, of Calgary, is charged with 14 criminal offences including; possession of controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, impaired driving, and dangerous driving.
Peoples is in custody and is expected to appear in court on April 19.
