Melcor Developments Ltd. has donated $1 million to the Crowfoot YMCA and will have its name added to the facility’s title.
“The Y humbly and quietly goes about its business, making a real impact,” said Andy Melton, Executive Vice Chairman of Melcor. “We hope this investment will inspire others to consider YMCA Calgary as worthy of support and investment.”
The Crowfoot YMCA will now be known as Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot. The donation will be used to boost its Power of Potential Campaign, the biggest campaign in its 114 year history.
“Through this contribution to the YMCA campaign, Melcor has shown tremendous leadership,” said Evan Hazell, Co- Chair of the Power of Potential Campaign cabinet. “This support will go a long way in engaging more people of all ages and abilities in reaching their full potential – the anchor purpose of our campaign.”
With a goal of raising $30 million dollars, the campaign will fund the following three components:
- $23 million for three new facilities in Quarry Park, Rocky Ridge and Seton
- $4 million to upgrade current facilities at Camp Chief Hector YMCA
- $3 million to expand the scale and scope of community programs throughout the city
YMCA Calgary President and CEO Helene Weir said the two organizations are a great match in values.
“The words honesty, caring, responsibility and respect hang prominently inside the Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot,” she said. “Andy and the team at Melcor embody those values and put them to good use creating communities and investing in the success of kids, families and everyone who lives and works within them.”
Melcor is a diversified real estate development and asset management company based out of Edmonton.
